Sunday morning: tartan and stripes

This might be of interest to @mrerikj and @justbudfox and possibly to others.  The OCBD in the picture is the new Brooks Bros “original polo” collar shirt.  I’m glad that they brought out this collar, but IMO, the construction of the shirt “ain’t” worth $140.  (Disclaimer:  I did not pay the full amount as I used by BB corporate card.  But, still!)  The buttons are cheap, and I predict they will not last.  Judging by eye, I’d say that the collar is smaller than the collars found on my really old BB OCBD’s.  After one wash, there were loose threads.  I’m not trying to bash BB.  But, at this price, I expect something better.

I appreciate the review. I was going to try and run by BB yesterday in Cincinnati, but it was one thing too many. I will probably hold out until BB runs the double corporate discount, because I am curious but not THAT curious.

Thank you for the review,
@michigantrad
. Bud and I have both discussed getting this shirt but neither has pulled the trigger. My local BB had a nice display of them and while I liked the array of colors and stripes, the collar didn’t seem improved enough for a nearly $50 increase. Their dumbass salesman tried to tell me the collars were still lined because “you wouldn’t be able to wear a tie otherwise.” They were too young and ironic to assist the BB demographic. If they sold them for $90-100, I’d think they were a pretty good value. But costing more than all of their competition…I have a hard time choosing them over Michael Spencer, Kamakura, or J Press. I only omit Mercer as I’ve never tried them, but they still cost less than Brooks.
@michigantrad I look forward to hearing updates over time about how it breaks in or just breaks. I am curious about one, but I have about 11 months to observe you and others until my clothing fast is broken.

Wardrobe updates.

I’ve had a very in-box messages about my New Years resolution. The no new clothes one. I am happy to say I’ve kept my pledge up to this point. It hasn’t been easy. Getting those sale emails from Press, BB, The Andover Shop… Watching prices on items that I’ve kept my eye on fall like the Asian stock indexes. It’s taken a level of willpower I have never exerted in regards to my spending. I feel like I am getting the hang of it though.

Whatever you, dear reader, have been trying to control this year… I pray you also find the power to stick to your plan.

I just saw a green Triumph last week, and Silk came to mind.
